The Maldives has a tropical climate with warm temperatures and a great deal of sunshine year-round. Day time temperatures reach 31 degrees Celsius and at night time, hits a low of about 23 degrees Celsius. Sea water temperatures range from a warm 26 to 29 degrees Celsius. The average temperature does not change much throughout the year though April is normally the hottest month whilst December is the coolest. As the Maldives is situated across the equator, severe storms are rare.
The weather is determined largely by the monsoons; the Northeast monsoon from December to April and the Southwest monsoon from May to November, during which period more rain is experienced.
